It was in the fall of 1958 when my brother, Larry, who was a high school senior, purchased a new motorcycle. Two days after he bought it, he was riding it back to the dealer for a tune-up. Suddenly a car turned left coming towards him and hit him head-on. He hit the right front fender, slid across the hood and his head hit and shattered the windshield. He did not have a helmet on.
He was severely injured and was in the hospital for 90 days. It was years before he regained reasonably good health. He has spent his entire adult life hurting somewhere on/in his body. He lost most of the use of his left hand among other severe health issues.
As you might guess that motorcycle crash was an event that Larry will never forget! We call an emotionally powerful event like that a Door Point. For Larry, every time he sees a motorcycle it possibly brings back bad memories. He could have let in the spirits of Fear, Self-pity, Anger at the driver, and possibly at God for allowing it to happen.
It was a Door Point for me, too, since I vividly remember when I was called to the phone and given the news of the accident by my mom. The message of that day has been burned into my brain – “Don’t buy a motorcycle – you will be hurt or killed.” On that day I very likely let in the spirit of Fear.
It, too, was probably a Door Point of Fear for my mother when she received that tragic phone call from the police. Therefore, this accident was a Door Point for all of us. PLUS it was most likely a Door Point for the driver of the car!
As you might surmise, a Door Point is ANY positive or negative experience that causes DEEP emotions and are burned into our memories. These kinds of experiences are easily recalled because of their uniqueness and their emotional impact/imprint on the brain.
A few examples of good Door Point are: Graduation from school, your wedding, the birth of a child, wonderful vacations, that championship game you were the star of, etc. The list is endlessly varied and unique to each individual.
Good Door Points feel good and have a positive impact and influence on our body and emotions. The body secretes “feel-good” hormones and leaves you with a positive feeling.
A bad Door Point, on the other hand, can have a deep negative impact and influence on your thinking, leaving you hurt, scared or confused. This emotional vulnerability opens a “door” to spirits of Fear, Rejection, Anger, Hatred, Bitterness, and the like. It can cause your body to continue to secrete certain hormones at unhealthy high levels.
Examples of bad Door Points are: an accident like the one Larry had, a war injury that left one severely handicapped, rejection by mom or dad, divorce, the sudden death of a loved one, sexual abuse, abortion, etc. Again, the list can be endless and different for each person.
For your health’s sake and for the sake of those you interact with on a daily basis, we suggest you consider how past events in your life – Door Points – may have allowed spirits to have access and wrongly influence your actions and thoughts. Recognizing what these spirits are and how they gained access is the first step to getting free of them!
Attending an RLI conference can help you with this process.
We suggest that you store up as many good-to-great Door Points as you can, so that your mind will have a huge array of health-producing memories to bring to mind when needed. In Paul’s letter to the Philippians he says: “Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious – the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies.” PHILIPPIANS 4: 8-9 MSG
